New Savages Friday 7 June 2019

June 7, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Doors Open 6pm

The New Savages are an electric and original take on the first generation of recorded blues. Lead Singer Milan’s striking baritone vocals seem to evoke the spirit of a great poet. His guitar playing is a simple, primitive and hypnotic boogie – one that sounds as though humans have been playing it since the dawn of time.

The subtle sense of charisma and confidence The New Savages emanate to their audiences comes from having their ears are tuned to sounds from another world. Milan seems to find himself a kindred spirit to the original Delta Bluesmen, who lived and recorded before the Great Depression. This led to a pilgrimage to the depth of the Mississippi Hill Country to understand his craft.

Seventh Son is the culmination of being on the road relentlessly across Australia for 4 years, playing over 350 shows across the Continent. It’s an album inspired by the naked truth of the original Blues. Seventh Son is slated for release at the start of Winter in 2019, with an accompanying national tour taking the spirit of the Blues around Halls, Bars and Festivals across Australia.

With regular appearances on ABC radio across the continent, and a growing reputation as festival performers, The New Savages have built a niche unto themselves.

These guys … they get it. Check ’em out as soon as you are able” – Matt Frederick, PBS 106.7 The Juke Joint

This guy looks like the uncivilized savage, who learned to play guitar on a wire strung up to a wall. Milan once told me that his guitar was his heart, his voice was the blood, and the New Savages were the product thrown lump and bloody lump into the face of authenticity. Their music goes beyond authentic; it reaches down into your soul and brings out an aesthetic real enough to launch a mission to Mars! – DeWayne Moore PhD, Blues Historian, Mt Zion Memorial Fund
