DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED; New date to be announced shortly! \n….Bungarribee\, an Indigenous word\, translates to an ‘idyllic meeting place’. Featuring Gary Daley\, Paul Cutlan & Ollie Miller\, with special guest & emerging artist\, Chloe Kim\, Bungarribee is one of Australia’s unique bands performing an intoxicating type of chamber music\, informed by jazz\, classical and world traditions. With an exotic mix of instruments such as Cello\, piano\, accordion\, bass clarinet and various percussion\, Bungarribee’s music is a melding together of disparate styles into a seamless whole. \nBUNGARRIBEE w/ CHLOE KIM: LIVE @ THE MECHANIC’S INSTITUTE // Saturday\, 26 March 2022 // Doors 6:30 pm // Tickets: $35 ea \nLocation: The Mechanic’s Institute\, Lawson. 284 Great Western Highway\, Lawson.\n \n\n\nBungarribee is led by highly respected pianist\, accordionist and composer\, Gary Daley and features several of Australia’s pre‑eminent contemporary musicians. Each having made significant contributions in jazz\, classical and world music. As a child\, Daley travelled down Bungarribee road in Sydney’s outer western suburbs to his earliest music lessons which subsequently lead to a life long journey of musical discovery. \nBungarribee embark on a creative journey which unfolds via deep communication and improvisation. Performing original compositions along with fresh improvisations on music by iconic composers such as Bartok\, Ligeti and Bach filtered through diverse traditions such as jazz \, folk and classical. Freedom and connection between musicians and audience is at the centre of a Bungarribee performance. For this musical adventure\, Gary Daley will be joined by long time artistic partners\, Paul Cutlan and Ollie Miller\, along with one of Australia’s most remarkable young musicians\, drummer Chloe Kim. \n/ GARY DALEY; Piano\, Accordion & Electronics /\nGary Daley is best known as a musician playing in some of the elite bands of Australian jazz\, such as The Catholics. He leads the quartet Bungarribee which features his own compositions and interpretations from the classical repertoire. Gary is a composer\, educator and plays piano and piano accordion. He has toured nationally and internationally and has been the recipient of two Australia Council grants for new work and recording. His projects have appeared at notable venues and festivals throughout the country\, garnering excellent reviews. Another side to Gary is his appearances on the ABC TV children’s channel in one of Australia’s most loved pre-school shows ‘Lah Lah’s Adventures’ and ‘The Stripy Sock Club’. \n/ PAUL CUTLAN; Reeds /\nPaul’s uniquely expressive voice as a multi-instrumentalist and composer is informed by many styles\, including contemporary classical music\, world music and jazz. SUMMARY:Three Hand Beat Bandits and Soular Spill
DESCRIPTION:THREE HANDED BEAT BANDTS & SOULAR SPILL // Saturday November 14\, 2020 // Doors open 6:40pm // The Mechanic’s Institute\, Lawson \nSOULAR SPILL\nStarting out as a jazz duo 5 years ago with just stripped back double bass and strong vocal harmonies at its core\, Soular Spill\, an evolving musical collective\, has grown into a band comprising of all Blue Mountains based musicians. Each member contributes their own unique flavour\, drawing on a rich tapestry of musical experience\, and blends this into a warm folky sound that resounds with soul. With Lawson local Sarah Jane Spillane up front on lead vocals and rhythm guitar\, Skye Evans on the double bass and vocal harmonies\, Colin Day on lead guitar with an array of effects\, with either Frank Corby or Matt Skeleton laying down the beats on drums\, Soular Spill creates a vibe that you can lean into. This music is soothing to listen to. \nTHREE HANDED BEAT BANDITS\n…undoubtedly the best three-handed big band in the world today. Made up of the two-handed\, John Stuart\, and the single-handed\, Neill Duncan – between them they play guitar\, bass\, congas\, drums and saxophone\, all at the same time. Megaphone vocals included\, this beat combo swing their listeners through a kaleidoscope of musical styles\, including reggae\, ska\, calypso\, funk\, swing\, and a little klezmer thrown in for good measure. Beautiful to the ear. Great for the feet. \nNeill Duncan is one of New Zealand’s most exciting and eccentric musical exports. His natural talent was almost cut short in 2016 when he lost his left arm to cancer. Proving you can’t keep a great musician quiet\, Neill now plays a bespoke\, one-handed tenor saxophone\, designed and built in Amsterdam. As if that weren’t impressive enough\, he also plays an adapted drum kit\, a megaphone\, and a few additional weird and wonderful instruments that thrill crowds Australia-wide. \nJohn Stuart is a master of the seven-string guitar. That one extra string lets John cover the bass lines as well as the chords that accompany the Bandit’s wide repertoire. At any given time\, you can see John switching between driving bass lines and sparkling melodies. Not to be outdone by his single-handed collaborator\, John also adds dynamic South American rhythms to the mix with mighty conga playing that get every crowd up and jumping. \nTHE SCHEDULE\nDoors Open: 6:40 pm\nSoular Spill: 7:00-8:00 pm\nThree Handed Beat Bandits: 8:15-9:00 pm\nThree Handed Beat Bandites + Guests: 9:15-10 pm \nTICKETS\nAdmission: Show Only $30 + booking fee\nBook Now – https://www.trybooking.com/BMETK \nCATERING & BAR\nThe Mechanics Institute’s newly refurbished back room opens at 5.30 pm for food & refreshments courtesy of ‘Redpepper Catering’ (not included in the ticket price). SUMMARY:FIRE and GRACE - Wed. 21st August 2019
DESCRIPTION:FIRE AND GRACE –Guitar and violin DUO\nWednesday\, 21 August 2019\nDoors open: 6.30pm\nShow starts: 7.30pm \nTickets and preview and  info at www.fireandgracemusic.live \nTickets $35 Adults\, $30 Concession\, $5 Under 18 \nFire and Grace Biography \nTheir first tour to Australia from North America \, Fire & Grace is an eclectic collaboration between Grammy Award-winning guitarist William Coulter and violinist Edwin Huizinga. \nThis unique duo explores the connective musical elements of classical\, folk\, and contemporary traditions from around the world. \nFire & Grace’s repertoire is vast\, ranging from Bach to Vivaldi\, tango to Celtic tunes\, traditional Bulgarian to American fiddle tunes and waltzes\, all played with a sense of discovery and commitment to the elements of passion and virtuosity — fire and grace — found in these diverse traditions. \n \nAbout the artists: \nPerforming both baroque and modern repertoire\, Canadian violinist Edwin Huizinga has appeared alongside Yo-Yo Ma\, Itzhak Perlman\, Dawn Upshaw\, Mike Marshall\, and Stevie Wonder\, and has been featured as a soloist with the San Bernardino Symphony\, the Sweetwater Music Festival\, the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival\, and the Banff Summer Arts Festival. Edwin is a founding member of the baroque ensemble ACRONYM which has released six full-length albums of previously unknown and unrecorded baroque music. Edwin also performs all over the world with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra. \nGuitarist William Coulter has been performing and recording traditional guitar music for over twenty years. His most recent solo recording\, The Road Home (Gourd Music) was met with critical acclaim\, and in 2005\, he received a Grammy Award for his contribution to The Pink Guitar\, a collection of solo guitar arrangements of Henry Mancini’s music. William maintains a classical guitar studio at the University of California at Santa Cruz and teaches at many summer music camps. This fact is an interesting connection to Lawson as the original subdivisions in Lawson were named Santa Cruz and San Jose.
